If I ever saw anyone open my mail box other than a postal employee I would light their ass on fire. I manage to make sure most of my accounts don't send statements but I do get medical statements.

JW internal warfare threatens the Tract campaign
by Quarterback ini overheard this argument re the new tract campaign.
one elder told a publisher, to hide the tract in the mailbox if the home owner wasn't home.
the publisher was used to folding the tip of the tract, and just left a tip showing.

I've been having some medical issues recently and had to check into the emgerceny hospital. When they admitted me the registar asked my mother my religion. She told them Jehovah's Witness. I have not been an active witness (field service and regular meeting attendance) since 1996. I also had no idea she told them this information. In my medical file I'm simply listed Christian.
While I was in my assigned room the nurse was hooking up my IVs and my mother, wife, and her friend was in the room. The surgeon was enroute to disucss my procedure. Then with no announcement a man pops in the room and says my name. "Oh, you are a Jehovah's Witnesses" For one I never understand this type of proclamation. Like you never see others enter a room or social setting exclaiming, hey you're a Baptist? Anyways, besides the over the top enter, the others in the room look confused including myself. I'm like how in the hell did they find me here? Then I noticed my mom get up and make a prompt exit.
I could tell my wife was upset because she doesn't like the religion at all and especially its opposition to traditions they label as pagan. She didn't know about their blood prohibition. I explained to this elder I am inactive for nearly 18 years and only attend meetings sporadically with my mother. Then he explained that I must still consider myself a witness since I listed myself as one and at that point is when I realized my mother must behind this.
This elder then ask me if I had the "blood card". That wasn't his words but I knew what he meant. I told him I again have not been active for nearly 18 years and do not want to discuss this further since I'm in pain. I told him my procedure will not require blood but if it did then I will let my wife make the decision. He left and then came back 5 minutes later. After the second time I started telling him about the recent changes in teachings and including the blood doctrine changes. He left for good that time. I was so mad at my mother. I was in the hospital for six days and was visited two more times by two different elders. They were nice men and sincere but I was in no mood for conversation. If this is their method of convinicing the lost sheep to return they need help in the marketing department. My wife is now more opposed than ever.
The hospital is a small one with almost no security so it was difficult for them to enforce no visitors. Well, actually the hospital in general is poorly managed and my entire week was terrible. Good thing is I'm home and will return to work in a week. I'm glad I have a decent job that pays me while I'm on a leave.

How much did the other countries pay for the 1000 kingdom halls in the philippines!
by StephaneLaliberte inref: http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/activities/construction/1000-kingdom-halls-philippines/.
while looking at the article one thousand kingdom halls and counting on jw.org, it immediately made me think: ahhh, this is where a large portion of the funds for the construction projects must go.
clearly, the philippinos are all poor and they need the financial support of richer countries.

Have you been to the Philippines? I have been there and visit often. My wife is from the island of Cebu and I've stayed in Manilla, Cebu, and Bohol. Comparing the poverty of the Philippines to the USA is not a fair comparison. Our poor are fat, have cell phones, cars ect..... My first visit to the country, I had a man with one arm amputated with his eye sunken into his skull begging for food. He had two small children next to him also starved. While staying in my sister-in-law's house in Cebu, there were little children who would dig in the burn pile for items to recycle. I saw countless shacks on the side of streets with entire families living in them. On the sidewalk again were these tent cities. Never in my entire life have I once witness such poverty in the USA. My wife lost three brother's to diseases when they were in their early thirties. They don't know the cause of death because lack of money for medical. I saw a man who laid in the street for hours with half his head missing from a car accident. No ambulance and no police for hours because he was a no body. Yes, I've seen tent cities here in the states and yes I've seen families living in vans and cars when the economy crashed but still doesn't compare to a country that has virtually no safety nets for its citizens.
With that being said I do agree with your overall point. The Jehovah Witnesses could do so much for these people but do very little. They want to beat on their chest when they construct a few homes that were destroyed in a storm but for those that are not members nothing.

Epigenetics is fascinating but also much misunderstood.
It is NOT Lamarkianism!
"The Epigenetics Revolution" by Nessa Carey is a good introduction.
Thanks for the suggestion. It does sounds similar to what Lamarck proposed. I often thought there was credence to what he suggested and was not always in conflict with dwarwinism. I have not studied evolution in any great detail, though abiogenesis is a topic I enjoy reading up on. Most of my biology studies concentrated for the health profession but does give me a good foundation to have a deeper understanding on these topics.
There was a recent study on metabolism of inorganic molecules. The chemistry looked similar to the Kreb cycle from what I saw of the paper but not quite as complex. But the neat thing is unlike celluar respiration needing an enzyme the study showed that the metabolism required metal ions as the catalyst. Though abiogenesis and epigenetics is far away from answering the origin of life, it does give some clearer indications of how logically it could of started and continues to change.

Commenting At The Meetings---Did You Enjoy It?
by minimus inwas that important for you?
most people, i believe, forced themselves to give an answer.
i knew many elders and servants over the years being counseled because they rarely answered.. funny thing....my mom who is 88 cries if she doesn't give a comment.

I remembered being embarassed when my younger brother would comment. I recall during the evolution study book him commenting on some strange theory of how God used the dinosaurs to form the earth and then how paleontologist evented new species. Then thinking back my seven year old brother made more sense than most GB new light.

I have some free time on my hand and been learning spanish. But I still have quite amount of free time available. I would like to learn animation similar to what the society produces (or sub contracts out) with the caleb videos. I have about 10-15 hours a week available to invest in this hobby. Could anyone help me with suggestion of software that would be advisable for a beginner? My ideal platform is one that has a free or low price for home base use with the option to upgrade to commerical use with a reasonable price (something under $200 US dollars). I eventually would like to use the software I learn to use to have no copyright restriction once upgraded to commerical package. Also if you have any suggestions to websites on the topic that would help also.
Thanks,

How about being given advice like this all the time? You can't even rub one out without being condemn..... oh the guilt
Young People Ask . . .
How Can I Conquer This Habit?
“I began masturbating when I was eight years old. Later I learned God’s view of the matter. I felt terrible every time I gave in. ‘How could God love someone like me?’ I asked myself. I felt sure that I would not make it into God’s new world.”—Luiz.*
PERHAPS you, like Luiz, have been enslaved to the habit of masturbation. You know that Jehovah would be pleased with you if you resisted the urge and exercised self-control, a fruit of God’s holy spirit. (Galatians 5:22, 23; 2 Peter 1:5, 6) But at times you give in. After each relapse, you conclude that you are a lost cause, that you are incapable of living up to God’s righteous standards.
That is precisely how young Pedro viewed himself. “When I relapsed, I felt terrible,” he says. “I thought that I could never atone for what I had done. I found it hard to pray. I would start by saying: ‘Jehovah, I don’t know whether you are going to hear this prayer, but . . .’” A young man named André had similar thoughts. “I felt like such a hypocrite,” he says. “It was a struggle to get out of bed in the morning and face the day. I found it difficult to sit through Christian meetings or to participate in the ministry.”
If your feelings are similar to those of Luiz, Pedro, or André, take courage. You’re not alone, and your case is not hopeless! Many young people—and older ones—have struggled with masturbation and have been able to overcome it. You can too.*

Is this a new "This Generation" or not?
by Doug Mason infirst of all i want to express my sincere gratitude to atlantis and his good friends for making this 2014 book available.. ------------.
as i see it, and i am absolutely open to contradiction, the wts appears to be giving another new meaning to this generation.
this time the term means all of his anointed followers, including his immediate disciples.

I get so confused with their constant generation teaching changes. So when will they need to make another adjustment to this teaching? In other words when does this other generation start dying off? 2025? 2035?

I just began reading it yesterday. I've been out since around 99. I thought the book was outdated and written in the early 80's. I was surprised it has been revised up to as recently as 2004. Too bad Franz is dead to give his comments on jw.org and the current path the org is taking.
